The forthcoming Apple+ miniseries The New Look has released new images and new information about its contemporary soundtrack produced by Jack Antonoff. The soundtrack will feature covers of WWII-era songs by modern artists, including Florence Welch, Lana Del Rey, Bleachers, Matty Healy, Beabadoobee, Nick Cave, Perfume Genius, and more.

The series itself is a look at the WWII-era fashion houses of Christian Dior and Coco Chanel, starring Ben Mendelsohn as Dior and Juliette Binoche as Chanel. During the Nazi occupation of Paris, the fashion world was dominated by Dior’s sartorial creations as he and his contemporaries ushered in modern fashion, and the series will follow the interconnected stories of Dior, Chanel, Pierre Balmain, and Cristóbal Balenciaga, among others.

Jack Antonoff and Bleachers recently released a new single, “Alma Mater,” which will be on their forthcoming self-titled album. The track also features vocals from Lana Del Rey, whom Antonoff frequently collaborates with. He told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 that Del Rey encouraged him to do something with the song after they wrote it together.
“Sometimes you want people to feel like something almost sounds unattainable, and sometimes you want people to feel like they’re just in a room with you,” he said. “And so if I want it to feel like I’m just talking to someone or we’re in a room together, then I like to add things like random scratch takes or noises that remind you that you’re not in a heightened environment … A song like this, I want it to be like I’m sitting on your basement floor with you.”
Bleachers is the first new offering from Antonoff and the group since Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night in 2021. They released another single, “Modern Girl,” last month, which will also be featured on the album. Additionally, Antonoff is nominated for Producer of the Year at this year’s Grammys, making this the fifth year in a row that he’s been nominated. A win this year would be the third consecutive trophy for Antonoff.
