Willie Nelson’s 90th Birthday Tribute Concert Coming to Cinemas in June

Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday is coming to a movie theater near you. Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 will feature highlights from Nelson’s 90th birthday tribute show that took place at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on April 29 and 30.

Keith Richards, Neil Young, Stephen Stills, Snoop Dogg, Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, George Strait, Miranda Lambert, and Chris Stapleton were among the many superstars who paid musical tribute to Nelson over the course of the two-night show. It was also a family affair, as Nelson’s sons Lukas and Micah Nelson performed, in addition to Norah Jones doing a tribute to Nelson’s late sister and longtime piano player, Bobbie Nelson. Helen Mirren, Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson, Jennifer Garner, Ethan Hawke, and Chelsea Handler were the all-star presenters throughout the shows.

The special will air in cinemas across the country on June 11, with encore performances on June 13 and 14. The two-hour screening will also feature performances and collaborations by The Lumineers, Billy Strings, Gary Clark Jr., Jack Johnson, and others, with Nelson himself performing both nights.

“Demand to attend this historic concert event was unprecedented,” Nelson’s manager Mark Rothbaum and Keith Wortman, CEO of Blackbird Presents, the company that produced the tribute shows, said in a joint press statement. “Willie wanted to make sure his 90th birthday party included and was accessible to all of his fans. This concert film release will allow everyone to join in and celebrate with Willie and an amazing line-up of superstar artists. We are thrilled to share this concert event with fans around the globe in such a unique and powerful way.”

Tickets to the film are available for purchase HERE. Nelson also announced that he’s releasing a book, Energy Follows Thought: The Stories Behind My Songs, on October 31 that zooms in on his songwriting process and expansive song catalog from his more than 60 years as an artist.
