Videos by American Songwriter
Guitarist William Tyler has shared a trailer for his forthcoming album Modern Country. The three-minute long video finds Tyler trekking across a variety of American landscapes, as the Nashville-based artist details his inspiration for composing the songs on Modern Country, which drops June 3 via Merge Records.
“I spent the better part of two years touring solo, driving across the country multiple times, and falling back in love with the vast and jarring expanse of America,” Tyler says in the video. “Modern Country is a love letter to what we’re losing in America, to what we’ve already lost.”
Tyler wrote much of the album while staying in a cabin in Oxford, Mississippi, nearby the former home of William Faulkner. He then headed north to Eau Claire, Wisconsin to record the album, marking the first time one of his records was not cut in Nashville.
The guitarist is currently on tour with Mountain Goats, and a string of August dates with Wilco is expected to be announced shortly. A full list of current tour dates can be seen below.
