Wife of Brian May Offers New Update on Her Husband’s Health After Stroke

Joining forces with Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor, Brian May watched as the trio started the iconic band Queen. Formed during the 1970s, the years brought them legendary success as the band sold over 300 million albums and landed in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. With Queen continuing to perform even after Mercury passed, the wife of Brian May, Anita Dobson, offered an update on her husband after he had a stroke.

just a few months ago, news broke that May suffered a stroke. Currently 77 years old, the musician focused on his recovery and listening to his doctors. And according to Dobson, “He’s much better now, he’s stabilised now, which is brilliant.” She told The Mirror, “’I just hope we don’t have any more reoccurrences. He’s got the use of that arm, which was a bit of a challenge, back now.”

While worried about her husband and his health, Dobson shared some good news, “So, yeah, he’s good to go now. He’s playing the piano quite a lot in the house. He likes a lot of Beethoven. I love it – the piano in the house is really, just very relaxing.”

Brian May Claims He Was Not Allowed To Leave The House

Dobson even explained how it took some time before May wanted to play again, “He didn’t actually try (to play an instrument) until after he’d recovered quite a bit. And then he very slowly started to pick up an acoustic guitar and gradually just exercise the muscles. And it very quickly came back. He’s just retraining the messages from your brain to that arm, that it’s actually okay to do what it used to do. It was scary. And also being a genius for someone like that. His brain’s overloaded, that’s what it is. He’s too clever for his own good.”

Sharing over 24 years of marriage, May joked about his recovery and how Dobson wouldn’t let him leave the house. “I’m not allowed to go out – well, I’m not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on a plane, not allowed to raise the heart rate too high.” Thankfully, both Dobson and May will get some fresh air as the musician shared they will travel to Lapland for Christmas.
