It was previously announced that the new Elton John documentary Elton John: Never Too Late will get its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Friday, September 6. Now we also when the movie will first be shown on TV.

According to a press statement, the doc’s television debut is scheduled for December 13 on the Disney+ streaming service. The film will first have a limited run in U.S. and U.K. theaters that starts on November 15.

Never Too Late was co-directed by R.J. Cutler and John’s husband, David Furnish. The movie follows Elton as he prepares to play the final North American concert of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. The show took place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on November 20, 2022.
Described as an “emotionally charged, intimate and uplifting full-circle journey,” the movie also will feature John looking back on his life and long and extremely successful career. The film captures Elton reflecting on the various highs and lows of his career, including his battle with drug abuse and addiction. The flick also features one brand-new song from John.
An official poster for Never Too Late also has been unveiled. It features an image of Elton from his 1970s heyday onstage playing piano as he leans back on the bench. At the poster top of the poster is the tag line, “He risked everything to find himself.”
John has posted a message about the doc on his social media pages. “This documentary is such a special journey through the memories, music, and moments that have shaped my life,” the note reads. “Mark your calendars for 13 December when it lands on [Disney+].”
More About Never Too Late’s Toronto Premiere
Never Too Late’s world premiere will take place at Roy Thomson Hall on September 6 at 9:30 p.m. local time. Additional screenings are scheduled to be held at Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto on September 7 and September 13.
The Toronto International Film Festival’s website features a synopsis of the movie with some additional information. The setting for the beginning of the documentary also is Dodger Stadium, but at John’s famous 1975 performances at the L.A. ballpark. Looking back at that time in his life, Elton admits, “There was an emptiness within me.”
In addition to in-depth interviews with John, Never Too Late will feature previously unseen archival footage and photos.
