L.A. rock outfit Buckcherry, most popularly known for their parent-pleasing smash single “Crazy Bitch” from 15, has been up to some crazy stunts in recent news. With the upcoming September release of their new record, Black Butterfly, there have been a lot of suspicious and questionable events floating around the biz.
Last week, online torrent resource site TorrentFreak reported of the band complaining about their new song “Too Drunk…” being leaked on the widely used music site BitTorrent. Rather than taking the track down or explaining the leak, Atlantic Records (Buckcherry’s label) issued a press release with a few lines about the incident and about seven paragraphs concerning their current tour with Motley Crüe, their fall tour with Avenged Sevenfold, and information about Black Butterfly. “Honestly, we hate when this sh*t happens, because we want our FANS to have any new songs first,” the band stated in the release. Also, strangely enough, the band “quickly cut a ‘down and dirty video’” for the “sexy, slinky groove” of “Too Drunk…” in response to the early release.
So, TorrentFreak called out the bloodhounds. Long story short, after a few days of research, emailing, looking up IP addresses and Wiki-Scans, they discovered that “Too Drunk…” had been leaked by Buckcherry’s manager, Josh Klemme. They knew this to be true when they obtained the IP address of the original seeder of the song, emailed Klemme to ask about how he felt about the situation, and then matched the IP address of his email to the seeder IP.
In an ever-evolving music industry, it seems like everyone is reaching out for new answers and ways to stand a little taller than the rest. With many online blogs already crying foul play and talks of boycotting, these guys have a major mess to clean up. Is all publicity really good publicity? Maybe Buckcherry and Crew were a little too drunk when they came up with this one.
