An indie rock troubadour of sorts, Sir Mark Charles Heidinger spent many years in raucous Guided By Voices-inspired bands like The Apparitions and The Hub in his native Lexington. For the past few years, Heidinger found that the acoustic guitar is a bit more powerful. Thus, Vandaveer was born. Equal parts folk and pop, towing a line where Nick Drake and Andrew Bird set up shop, Vandaveer tells campfire stories under the guise of crafty, quiet, dynamic torch ballads, beautifully executed and brilliantly captivating. Balancing between the theatrical weaving pontificating of Tom Waits with the subtler but restrained power of Smog, Vandaveer crosses many genres to achieve what could just be described as good, powerful music.
