The Women’s March gained attention from countless celebrities, including the likes of Madonna and Ashley Judd, the latter of whom delivered a controversial poem that rebuked President Donald Trump and discussed the fate of women’s rights in America.
Following the March, in which an estimated 500,000 people in Washington, D.C. stood in solidarity for women’s rights, Sleater-Kinney performed at Planned Parenthood’s official after-party. The video below features Sleater-Kinney covering Creedance Clearwater Revival’s iconic protest song “Fortunate Son” alongside the National’s Matt Berninger, Dirty Projectors’ Dave Longstreth and even the president of Planned Parenthood herself, Cecile Richards.
In 2015, Planned Parenthood partnered with Sleater-Kinney on their national tour, sending volunteers to hand out condoms and encouraging concertgoers to take political action in support of women’s health rights. Before that, they had partnered once before in 2000 when Sleater-Kinney hit the road in support of their album All Hands on the Bad One.
Sleater-Kinney was featured on the cover of American Songwriter’s March/April edition in 2015.
