Watch Shaboozey Prove His Staying Power With ‘SNL’ Performances of “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and “Good News”

Growing up in Woodbridge, Virginia, Shaboozey loved listening to hip-hop music. But given his father’s fascination with cowboys and country music, the singer eventually dabbled in country. And although only exploring the genre, it seemed that Shaboozey found his home as he released his first single, “Jeff Gordon” in 2014. Singing about NASCAR, the star went on to release albums like Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die and Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going. Continuing to expand his career in country music, Shaboozey recently performed his hit song “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” on Saturday Night Live.

With SNL celebrating its 50th season, the show welcomed numerous hit singers to its stage. Looking over the past several weeks, Chappell Roan and Jelly Roll performed. And adding his name to SNL history, Shaboozey celebrated his recent milestone of being the musical guest for the evening.

Already a hit song for Shaboozey, the singer decided to perform a second time with his new song “Good News.” Surrounding the star’s struggle with mental health and alcohol abuse, Shaboozey gained high praise from fans.

Looking at the comments, fans wrote, “This is the best country artist to emerge in recent years and yet the recognition comes from the wider audience, very little from the country music industry itself. It’s a shame, but we’re here to support you all the way.” Another person added, “I’ve never heard this guy before but I got goosebumps. Been a while since a new artist has done that for me. Really excellent band too. I’ll definitely be listening.”

This song is my reminder that even in the darkest moments, there’s always hope. For anyone who needs some good news right now—this one’s for you..”
