Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert are two of the biggest forces in country music today. And those forces combined are certainly something. The two country superstars co-wrote “What Am I Gonna Do,” the opening track on Stapleton’s highly acclaimed 2023 album Higher. On Saturday (Aug. 24), Lambert joined the “White Horse” singer onstage for their first-ever live duet of the song.

Miranda Lambert Opened For Chris Stapleton in Houston
There are certain country songs you listen to when you want to move on from a breakup like yesterday. And there are others that you blast when you want to curl up inside your own heartbreak and stay there awhile. “What Am I Gonna Do” falls into the latter category: What am I gonna do / When I get over you? / What am I gonna be / When you’re just a memory? / What am I gonna drink / When I don’t have to think / About what I’m gonna do / Without you?
The quietly devastating number usually sees Chris Stapleton trading harmonies with wife Morgane. However, Miranda Lambert opened for Stapleton during his Saturday (Aug. 24) “All-American Road Show” stop at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. Later, the “Wranglers” singer rejoined Stapleton onstage to stand in for Morgane on “What Am I Gonna Do.”
The pair’s voices mingled perfectly as they performed the heartbreaking ballad live together for the first time: Been drinkin’ everything on that shelf / Feels like I’m killin’ myself / You’re gone, and it hurts like hell / Wishin’ I was anybody else.
And this wasn’t the first time Lambert had filled for Morgane Stapleton. When the singer-songwriter had to miss the 2021 ACM Awards, the “Dammit Randy” singer was there to take her place in a duet of “Maggie’s Song.”
How To Catch ‘The All-American Road Show’ Tour
Chris Stapleton has been on The All-American Road Show for quite some time now. The 10-time GRAMMY Award winner kicked off his first solo headlining tour on May 5, 2017. It is scheduled to wrap up next March in Auckland, New Zealand.
