L.A.-based songwriter Cass McCombs has spent the last two weeks touring Europe. But somehow he manged to put together this music video for “County Line,” off his April release, Wit’s End (Domino). “County Line,” in my book, is pretty much up there with “Dark End Of The Street” as one of the greatest slow-burning country-soul songs of all time. In the song, McCombs develops the extended metaphor of the problems one faces in revisiting a former geographic location and revisiting a romantic entanglement. In both situations, which become fairly entwined in McComb’s song, you hope nothing’s changed but often end up feeling lost. Watch the video below, which McCombs directed himself and seems to be something of a tour diary through parts of Texas to New Orleans’ Mardi Gras.
