On Thursday, November 9, Bruce Springsteen, Roger Waters, and John Mayer joined comedians Jon Stewart, Ricky Gervais, Patton Oswalt and Robin Williams for the Stand Up for Heroes benefit at New York’s Beacon Theater. The event raised money for combat veterans who’ve served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mayer served up a solo cover of The Beatles’ “The Long And Winding Road,” while Waters sang “Wish You Were Here” and Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door.” Springsteen’s acoustic set included “We Take Care Of Our Own,” “Land Of Hope And Dreams,” “Working On The Highway,” and “Tougher Than The Rest” (with wife Patti Scialfa).
“I imagine America for a living, and I put it into a song,” Springsteen mused onstage. “And it’s not something I could do, truly or freely, without the sacrifice and service of the men and women sitting in front of me.”
