Was Mariah Carey’s Spotify Wrapped Video Actually AI? The Queen of Christmas Speaks Out

With almost four decades in the music industry, Mariah Carey fashioned a career that landed her in films like Precious, Glitter, and even The Lego Batman Movie. But not just focusing on Hollywood, Carey also released 15 studio albums. Although producing several hit songs, most know her as the Songbird Supreme and voice of Christmas. Back in 1994, Carey released the album Merry Christmas. While her first Christmas album, it featured the iconic song “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” Having solidified herself as a part of the Christmas season, the singer recently broke her silence when fans claimed her 2024 Spotify Wrapped video was actually AI.

Over the last few years, AI advanced to the point that the technology could produce almost anything. With the right words, a person could get AI to create an entire movie, song, or even a video. On Wednesday, December 4th, Spotify allowed users to see some of their top streams throughout the year. And according to the platform, artists like Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, and The Weeknd dominated the year.

While only wanting to thank her fans for their continued support during the year, Carey received claims she faked the video. Jumping on Twitter, the singer shared the video with a caption reading, “Bad lighting and red lip have you all thinking this is AI??? There’s a reason I’m not a fan of either of those things! About to celebrate Christmas time with my Boston Lambily.”

Looking at the comments, fans found humor in the situation with one person writing, “I thought it was AI too. But I’m glad you did the message! It was a surprise when I was watching my Spotify Wrapped stories!” Another person added, “I got your message on Spotify and I knew it was you and loved the out of character red lipstick but knew it was for a festive occasion. Loved it and appreciate you and all you do for the lambily!”

With Carey battling AI claims, she found herself on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week when the Christmas season welcomed back holiday classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”
