Australian indie rockers The Temper Trap have a new, self-titled  album, the followup to 2009’s acclaimed Conditions, which will hits our shores on June 5th. Watch a video teaser below for the album track “The Sea Is Calling,” and check out the band’s 2012 tour dates (including a return trip to Bonnaroo) here.

Lead singer Dougy Mandagi tells American Songwriter: “The song is somewhat of an existential question. When I was writing it was reminiscing about my time in Bali — which is where I’m originally from. I was on the edge of a cliff looking out onto the Indian ocean. I couls see small fishing boats rocking in the distance looking for food in the big unknown.

“I just thought it was a beautiful metaphor for life and our place in it. I felt like such a small creature engulfed in the vastness of it all. Why do we count, whey do we matter? If it’s all going to pass one day, why do we strive for so much? Is it worth the pain? I felt like the sea was calling me to jump into it and find that place or purpose, if you will.”
