Austin-based Mother Falcon describe themselves as “Arcade Fire – but bigger,” and bigger they are. What originated as a casual jam-session among friends soon grew into a 20-plus member band with a nine-piece string section, multiple horns, a bassoon, a glockenspiel and more. The Austin-based group released its most recent album You Knew on May 7th. The album features “Blue and Gold,” a song that truly demonstrates the power and strength brought to the table by this diverse group of musicians. An acute tension gradually builds up throughout the song, but there’s no “snap.” Instead, the tension lies beneath the surface, giving the song a subtle dignity.

“‘Blue and Gold’ is about the constant shift in the power dynamic of a romantic relationship, where the abuser becomes the abused and vice versa,” the band says. “We portray this abstractly through the changing roles of the colors in the song; black and blue and gold and red. In the video, two ballet dancers interpret and portray this relationship.”

The video premieres today, via American Songwriter. Check it out below.

The band hits the road tomorrow (August 2).
