Video Premiere: Minnesota, “Moths”

Peter Himmelman — Bob Dylan’s son-in-law, acclaimed solo artist, former member of Sussman Lawrence and Grammy-nominated creator of children’s albums — had added another band to resume. Minnesota is his new project, a collaborative band featuring some of the state’s best musicians, from BoDeans drummer Noah Levy to Johnny Lang’s current bassist, Jimmy Anton.

At the center of the group are Himmelman and filmmaker David Hollander, the man behind the hit TV series “The Guardian.” Together, the two helped turn Minnesota’s debut album, Are You There, into an organic record rooted in folk, Americana understated pop/rock. “Moths,” an acoustic ballad featuring harmony vocals from Kristin Mooney and Claire Holley, is the album’s first single.

“I haven’t a clue as to what it’s about,” Himmelman says of the song. “I think I must have been dreaming when I wrote it. Someone is urging, cajoling, begging for something. A benediction? A ticket out? A memory restored?”
