Ben Kyle of Romantica’s new, self-titled solo album features “Mercy,” a gorgeous, harmony-drenched track that went through a lot of permutations but ended up perfect. “I spent two whole weeks writing this song,” the Belfast, Ireland-born artist tells American Songwriter. “Each day I would re-write it completely, from the bottom up. Normally I would let go of an idea much sooner, but the subject felt so significant, I was determined to get it right. It’s a prayer really. A prayer for the world. Right now, it’s a prayer for Newtown.”
