The Song: “Katie Queen Of Tennessee”
The Artist: The Apache Relay, the beloved Nashville folk-rock band who have been making their way around the festival circuit, including Mumford and Sons’ Gentlemen of the Road tour.
Fun Fact: The band met by chance in their college dorm.
Fun Fact 2: They’re big Springsteen fans who covered “State Trooper” on their debut album, and the title of “Katie Queen of Tennessee” is a shout-out to The Boss’ “Mary, Queen Of Arkansas.” Their new album, The Apache Relay, drops April 22.
Sounds Like: The perfect song for a summertime drive through the Smokies.
Songwriter Says: “We filmed this at Sound City,” says vocalist Michael Ford Jr. “Some of our favorite records of all time had been made there. It was almost overwhelming to try to take it in. Once the red light came on I had to kind of block it out. You could easily start thinking ‘Tom Petty recorded here, Kurt Cobain recorded here,’ mid-take and freak yourself out.”
