U2’s Spider-Man The Musical : with weird concepts come great responsibility.
Videos by American Songwriter
When news first circulated last year that U2 were working on a Spider-Man Musical, many thought it would never happen. Too weird, too out of character. Neither assessment was correct. “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark,” with music and lyrics by Bono and the Edge, will hit Broadway next year, on February 18th. Julie Taymor, the director behind the Beatles movie Across the Universe, will direct.
According to Billboard.com, the budget for the production is $31 million dollars, and Marvel Entertainment will co-produce. Casting has yet to take place, but Across the Universe stars Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood are likely favorites for the roles of Peter Parker and Mary Jane.
Fans of the band, and of the ‘Man, will have to wait another year to see if this project will kick all kinds of ass, or act as the first nail in U2’s coffin.
All we know is, if this is for real, we can’t wait for GI Joe, The Musical.
