Internet music services iLike and TuneCore announced yesterday that they would join forces to provide indie artists with greater opportunities for revenue and exposure on the web. The venture will, in essence, create a label out of the two already successful companies.

The premise is simple, but effective: iLike will provide an outlet for the discovery of indie music, while TuneCore will take on the role of distributor to ensure that artists featured on the site profit from its use.

The real benefits are in the details. TuneCore, an always artist-friendly service, allows for the distribution of music to all major digital outlets (Amazon, iTunes, Rhapsody, etc.) while providing the artist with 100 percent of the royalties. Royalties are worthless, of course, if your music isn’t being downloaded and that is where iLike comes into play.

iLike’s already popular services will allow artists using the service much greater exposure, while allowing royalties not only just for paid downloads but also streaming on social networking mega-sites such as Facebook and their own site, www.ilike.com.

“As the music industry continues to reinvent itself, we believe it’s critical to offer independent musicians equal opportunity alongside major-label artists,” iLike CEO Ali Partovi explained.
