September marks the gray area between summer and fall. Though the official start date of autumn is in September, there are many parts of the country that remain far too hot to start reveling in the changing of the seasons. What is fall without a little jazz? One of our favorite standards to dust off around this time of year is “September in the Rain.” Though several artists have delivered powerful renditions of this ballad, we’re partial to Frank Sinatra’s. His powerful vocals ring out over this vignette of love gone by.

3. “September” (Earth, Wind & Fire)
Though sonically Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September” might not befit the colder months, thematically it does. Naturally, we couldn’t make this list without including it. When thinking of September songs, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t have this track on top of mind.

4. “September Gurls” (Big Star)
We’re finishing our list with another upbeat track. Some people find the changing of the seasons hard. When the days start to shorten and the sun starts to hide from view, it can be helpful to have a few uppers on your playlist. “September Gurls” by Big Star is just the ticket.
