It seems like Bonnaroo gets bigger each year. With hundreds of artists taking multiple stages, it can be overwhelming at best to figure out just who you’re going to see and when. To make it a little easier on you, we’ve rounded up ten artists we’re looking forward to seeing when we head down south to the farm.
Kacey Musgraves – We’ve been Kacey Musgraves fans for a long time, and with her new album Pagaent Material hitting shelves later this summer, we’re hoping her set will include new material among our old favorites. Plus, those neon cacti are going to look great on the farm.
Sturgill Simpson – Sturgill may not be much of a talker but he puts on a killer show, letting his songs (and that amazing voice) speak for themselves. Plus, we imagine “Turtles All the Way Down” will especially be a crowd-pleaser at Bonnaroo.
Benjamin Booker – While Benjamin Booker’s recordings manage to capture much of his seemingly boundless energy, it’s the live show where he really shines. Check out his recent Live from Third Man Records album if you need to see for yourself.
Courtney Barnett – Courtney Barnett is one of the sharpest new songwriters around, as evinced by her stellar debut Sometimes I Sit and Think, Sometimes I Just Sit. She also puts on one hell of a live show, too, with banter as clever as her lyrics between songs.
Hurray For The Riff Raff – Alynda Segarra is one of the most important voices in folk, both for her velvety vocals and her social awareness. This will be a don’t miss set, one that should have you thinking as much as it has you singing along.
Catfish & the Bottlemen – One of the biggest, most buzzed about bands to come out of England in a long time, many are hailing Catifsh & the Bottlemen as the new Oasis. With soaring hooks and singalong choruses, their set should be perfect for the festival setting.
D’Angelo and the Vanguard – After nearly 15 years, D’Angelo returned in late 2014 with the highly anticipated Black Messiah. He and his band the Vanguard are known for electric live performances, and this should be one for the books.
Against Me! – Against Me! and front woman Laura Jane Grace are one of the most interesting stories in rock, and they’re also putting out some of the best music. Their live show is nothing short of an experience, with Grace one of the best band leaders around.
Madisen Ward & the Mama Bear – This mother and son duo has made waves across the roots and Americana scenes with their stripped-down arrangements and tight harmonies, both of which should translate well to the festival stage.
All Them Witches – Nashville psychedelic blues rockers All Them Witches have already made a splash locally, and now they’re starting to gain attention nationwide. If their live set is anywhere as energetic as their recordings, it should be a hell of a performance.
