Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration Of Tom Petty hit the charts this week. The album reached no. 1 on the Billboard Compilation Albums chart. Petty Country has brought back a number of Tom Petty classics, including “American Girl”, “I Won’t Back Down”, “Mary Jane’s Last Dance”, “You Wreck Me”, and more.

The album was released on June 21 through Big Machine Records. It features quite the lineup of famous stars who have covered Petty’s greatest hits. A few names include Dolly Parton (“Southern Accents”), Chris Stapleton (“I Should Have Known It”), Wynonna Judd (“Refugee”), and many more.

Is Tom Petty Actually On The Charts This Week?

Technically, no. The compilation album from Big Machine Records is charting quite well, but Tom Petty technically is not charting. Petty isn’t officially credited on the covered songs of this album. So, the charting success of Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration Of Tom Petty will not count toward his discography.

However, Tom Petty was no stranger to the charts when he was alive. Under Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, the 2014 album Hypnotic Eye peaked on the Top Rock Albums chart at no. 1 for 12 weeks. Petty has had similar success with other albums and singles. His 1993 Greatest Hits album peaked at no. 2 on the Top Album Sales chart in 2017 shortly after he had passed away.
