Tom Hamilton on Aerosmith’s Future: “Time and Hope Are All We Have at the Moment”

Besides serving as the bassist for Aerosmith, Tom Hamilton also helped the group when it came to finding the perfect words. He is credited with helping write songs like, “Sweet Emotion”, “Kings and Queens”, and “Can’t Stop Lovin’ You.” Having a rich history with the band, Hamilton considered “The Farm” one of his favorite songs produced by Aerosmith. Recently, Aerosmith announced their exit from the stage due to Steven Tyler suffering a vocal injury. With many claiming it was the end for the band, Hamilton recently shared his thoughts on if Aerosmith would ever return.

Sitting down with AARP, Hamilton discussed his career with Aerosmith and how much hope he had about the band reuniting in the future. On a scale from 1 to 10, Hamilton said, “On the hope scale, I’m somewhere between 7 and 9. We won’t be doing any tours from now on, but I’ll always have hope that other types of opportunities will come along. This isn’t the first time black clouds have been on our horizon — and somehow the sun managed to come out. Time and hope are all we have at the moment.”

Tom Hamilton Discusses The Power Behind Steven Tyler

Having weathered more than a few storms in the past, Hamilton pointed to the determination behind Tyler. “Steven has a way of powering through challenges like this one. He’s done it before. You never know. We won’t be touring, but there are a lot of other ways to be and do Aerosmith.”

Watching Tyler battle through the injury on stage to finish his final show, Hamilton insisted the future holds no power of Aerosmith.  “It’s a testament to his strength and desire to give the people what they came for. It wasn’t a case of him blowing his throat out by doing something wrong. He has been healing well and working his ass off to get ready to go back out on the road but it just wasn’t possible. We don’t know what the future holds but it won’t include touring.”

And for those believing Aerosmith could continue without Tyler, Hamilton said, “There’s been no talk at all about going on the road with another singer. I can’t imagine it.”
