On Sunday (June 11), HBO will air the second episode of their new original series The Idol, created by and starring The Weeknd. Accompanying the show’s weekly releases, The Weeknd has decided to add new music to the show’s soundtrack every week as well.

So, after he put out “Popular” with Madonna and Playboi Carti during the same week that the series premiered, the 33-year-old brought along two new songs for The Idol’s second week. The first half of the two-pack is “The Lure,” which is the show’s sole instrumental main theme song. Produced by The Weeknd and Mike Dean, the arrival of “The Lure” comes two months after the former executively produced the latter’s April studio album.
The second song dropped on Friday (June 9) was “World Class Sinner / I’m a Freak” by Lily Rose Depp, The Weeknd’s co-star and lead actress in The Idol. Likely a track that her character Jocelyn will perform in the show, “World Class Sinner / I’m a Freak” features an impressive vocal display from Depp as she harmonizes about her promiscuous tendencies. The Weeknd earned writing credits on the song.
I’m just a freak, yeah
You know I want it bad
And we can meet, yeah
But I don’t need to know your name
You can pull my hair
Touch me anywhere
Whip and chains
I’m just a freak, yeah
So show me why you came
In April, The Weeknd officially announced that he’d be orchestrating The Idol soundtrack, which is now expected to fully release on June 30. Additionally, in April, the Canadian icon delivered the lead single for the project titled “Double Fantasy,” which he had teased twice the week before.
Earlier this year, The Weeknd, whose legal name is Abel Tesfaye, expressed his desire to end this chapter of his career sometime soon. But, it seems like Tesfaye may have a little more gas in his Weeknd tank, considering how well all of his releases related to The Idol have been doing. Check out “The Lure” and “World Class Sinner / I’m a Freak” below.
