The Strokes, Nas and The Walkmen Talk Mix Tapes

Videos by American Songwriter

If you grew up in a certain era, the only way for awkward music lovers to express themselves was via the mix tape, a literal cassette copy of your feelings, dreams, and aspirations. With a couple of lyrics you actually didn’t mean like that, but might be interpreted that way, sure.

TDK (a brand name familiar to any ’80s kid) has compiled a series of video interviews with artists discussing their memories of mix tapes, featuring Nas, The Strokes, and now The Walkmen, the Philly band who put out one of our favorite albums of last year, Libson.

Watch as the aptly named Walkmen wax poetic about listening to bands like The Pogues, The Specials, The Rolling Stones and more below.
