In his career, Zach Bryan has done many things that go against that status quo. Whether it be his Ticketmaster protest or his recent barroom pop-up shows, it’s known that Bryan marches to the beat of his own drum. He continues to play that beat and march to it as he recently announced he’s withholding his music for Grammy consideration. Bryan isn’t alone, as artists such as Drake and The Weekend have also boycotted the show. However, Bryan’s motives seem a bit more down-to-earth and wholesome.

This decision will likely not affect Bryan’s career in the slightest. After all, it is his individuality that seemingly draws fans to both him and his music. Even though it’s unnecessary, if Bryan submitted his work for consideration there’d have been quite a good chance of him walking away with yet another Grammy. Though, that’s not his shtick and he’s made that very apparent.
Zach Bryan’s is “Uncomfortable” with Awards Show
According to Variety, Byran decided not to submit his work for the 2025 Grammys due to him being “uncomfortable” with the need to make music competitive. To some, this is a surprise. To others, not so much. The surprise comes from the success Bryan had at the Grammys last year, as he won the Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance Award. Additionally, Bryan received three other Grammy nominations in 2024.
However, Bryan’s decision also doesn’t come as a surprise given his purist disposition. Bryan is a musician and a writer, thus, he doesn’t feel the need to prove himself to anyone or anything. All he seemingly wants to achieve is to enlightenment and entertain fans through his words and music.
Bryan Joins Decorated Company
In addition to Drake and The Weekend, other artists to boycott the Grammys include Jay-Z, Eminem, Ariana Grande, and 50 Cent. Some may view this decision as pretentious and arrogant, though, it seems all Bryan is doing is standing up for what he believes.
Even though this might make him seem “too cool for school,” it’s these decisions that make musicians more than musicians. It’s what makes them cultural trailblazers.
