Listeners curious as to what The Felice Brothers are about need only bend an ear to the track “Penn Station” off the Brothers new disc, Yonder Is the Clock. The bleak lyric (it’s about a homeless man dying in Penn Station) still manages to fly as a toe-tapper in the hands of this folk/honky-tonk/rock outfit. Propelled by lead singer Ian Felice, whose vocals are more ragged and mud-caked than ever, the album is loose and live, like an impromptu jam. Brothers Simone & James swap harmonies and trade time at the center mic elsewhere on the album, while bandmates Greg Farley and Christmas Clapton ratchet up the drama with their emotional delivery. This is what real music sounds like.
