On Monday (Jan. 9), the trio of Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer announced that they are headlining half a dozen shows with the upcoming residency, The Chicks: Six Nights In Vegas! at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood in May. The shows take place on May 3, 5, 6, 10, 12 and 13.
“We can’t wait to see you all at @zappostheater,” the trio writes on social media alongside a graphic advertising the residency that shows them outlined in neon pink.
“We can’t wait!” Planet Hollywood comments. Tickets for the residency go on sale Friday (Jan. 13) at 1 p.m. ET.
This serves as The Chicks’ first Las Vegas residency. It follows their self-titled 2022 tour, which took them across the U.S. last June through August.
“Finally getting to play live in 2022 left us hungry to continue our tour,” The Chicks said in a press statement. “After so many years without new music, last year felt like a long time coming. We hope our fans are ready for more in 2023 because we are not done! There is a lot more to come this year and we are excited to get it all started in Las Vegas at the Zappos Theater this Spring.”
Planet Hollywood has been home to several other artists’ residencies, including Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Lionel Richie, Gwen Stefani, and Shania Twain. The Chicks’ latest studio album, Gaslighter, was released in 2020 and met with critical acclaim. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums and Top Album Sales charts, as well as No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
The band changed their name from the “Dixie Chicks” to “The Chicks” in 2020 to distance themselves from the word “dixie,” a nickname for the southern U.S. that has connotations of slavery.
