The recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, which killed nearly 200 people to date, have put a halt on India’s plan to host this Sunday’s Live Earth concert. The attacks, reportedly carried out by Islamic extremists with connections to Pakistan, lasted for three days as gunmen took and killed hostages in two Mumbai (also referred to as Bombay) luxury hotels.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are saddened to announce that Live Earth India has been called off,” organizers of the event announced in a statement on Saturday.

“We are all shaken up by this event, and even though we believe in the cause of global warming, we have indefinitely postponed the Live Earth concert,” said Viraf Sarkari, director of the Wizcraft local event management firm.

The December 7 concert was to feature a lineup including Jon Bon Jovi, Roger Waters, and Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and was organized with the intent of raising funds to provide solar energy to those in India without electricity.

Organizers cited several reasons for calling off the event, but primarily emphasized the safety of performers and respect for those who lost their lives in last week’s tragic events.

“It’s just not important compared to what’s happening there right now,” British actor and scheduled performer Amar Dhanjan agreed.

There is no confirmation of when or if Live Earth India will be rescheduled.
