Tedeschi-Trucks Band
Everybody’s Talkin’
(Masterworks)
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Last year’s Grammy winning studio debut from Susan Tedeschi and husband Derek Trucks’ sprawling 11 piece outfit was followed by a tour where they mixed originals with some wildly eclectic, thoughtfully rearranged covers. This 2-hour double disc captures all the excitement and improvisational interplay of the gigs, with the focus on Trucks’ lava-like guitar runs and the band’s ability to effortlessly fuse rock, blues, funk, soul, gospel and jazz. The concert versions of the album tracks are generally extended to twice their initial time with the second disc featuring only four long tunes. The band runs through gems from Muddy Waters (a jazzy “Rollin’ and Tumblin’”), John Sebastian (“Darling Be Home Soon”), Stevie Wonder (15 jam heavy minutes of “Uptight”) and others with a crisp, well-oiled professionalism and crackling solos that prompt spontaneous mid-song ovations from the enraptured audience.
