Country-pop siren Taylor Swift may enjoy the adulation of millions of teens, but her musical tastes are expanding beyond the bubblegum crowd. Swift revealed to MTV that the artist she would most like to collaborate with on her next album is not Miley Cyrus or the Jonas Brothers, but Jack White.

In an interview, Swift says of White that “I love his writing and I think that he’s an amazing player,” and that working with him would be “really awesome.” Swift is currently working on a new album, the followup to the hugely successful Fearless.  “As soon as I put out my last album, Fearless, the next day I was writing for the next album. So I’m always thinking ahead. I love organizing and planning and getting a theme going for the next record.”

Though the idea of a Taylor Swift/ Jack White collaboration may initially seem strange, it is not entirely unprecedented; in 2005 White produced an album for country legend Loretta Lynn, the celebrated Van Lear Rose. However, Swift doesn’t exactly carry the same musical weight as Lynn, and seeing as White is busy through the fall touring with the Dead Weather and promoting their new album Horehound, the chances of a collaboration in the near future look iffy. Still, both artists call Nashville home, and White has proven in the past that any attempts to predict his actions are futile.

For now, fans can simply ponder the unlikely. Perhaps the mix is unconventional, but as White proves again and again, the finished product would probably be “really awesome.”
