Taylor Swift Shows in Vienna Canceled Following Threats of Attack

Two people were arrested due to suspicions of planning a terroristic attack on large events in and around the Austrian capital, according to a report from the BBC. The event organizers for Swift’s concerts issued a statement.

“Due to confirmation by government officials of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three planned shows for everyone’s safety,” adding, “All tickets will be automatically refunded within the next 10 working days.”

There was one person arrested in Ternitz, located in Lower Austria, Wednesday morning, a 19-year-old Austrian citizen. The second suspect was arrested in Vienna that afternoon. Austria’s General Director for Public Security, Franz Ruf, reported the two arrests but did not provide any more information, per the BBC.

Ruf stated, “According to the current status of the investigation, the two suspects became radicalized via the internet.” Allegedly, the first suspect pledged an “oath of allegiance” to an Islamic State in July, and chemical substances were found in his home, which was searched by police.

This is a developing story.

Taylor Swift Dominates MTV’s Video Music Awards Nominees

The nominations for the VMA awards were announced on August 6 and—as one would guess—Swift leads the charge. The “Shake It Off” singer earned a staggering ten nominations. Her “Fortnite” collaborator, Post Malone, was also shown his flowers, notching nine nominations.

Swift is coming off her highly successful ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. Dropped in mid-April, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ functioned as a double album, with ‘The Anthology’ serving as a second dose of tracks.

The VMAs will air live on September 10 at 8 pm EST from UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. Alongside Swift and Malone, star nominees such as Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, and Eminem are all expected to enjoy big nights.
