Taylor Swift Is Grateful To Grieve “Concerts And Not Lives” In the Wake of Canceled Vienna Shows

Taylor Swift has broken her silence after authorities canceled three of her shows in Vienna, Austria, earlier this month. On social media, Swift referenced the “rollercoaster of emotions” she felt after a potential terrorist attack scrapped her “Eras” Tour stop at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium. The “Anti-Hero” singer also shut down those who levied criticism against her for waiting so long to address the situation.

Taylor Swift Felt “Fear” And “A Tremendous Amount of Guilt” After Cancellations

Taylor Swift’s billion-dollar “Eras” Tour was set to touch down in Vienna Aug. 8-10. However, authorities called off all three shows after Austrian police foiled a planned terrorist attack targeting the concerts.

The 14-time GRAMMY winner wrapped up the European leg of “Eras” on Tuesday (Aug. 20) at London’s Wembley Stadium. The next day, Swift addressed the cancellations on social media as she prepares to embark on a two-month touring hiatus.

“Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating,” wrote the pop star. “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”

Swift: “‘Silence’ Is Actually Showing Restraint”

The Wednesday (Aug. 21) post contained Taylor Swift’s first words regarding the thwarted terrorist attack. The “Karma” singer emphasized that safety has been paramount in the two weeks since.

“Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows,” Swift wrote on Instagram. “In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.”

Vienna officials have arrested three teenagers accused of plotting a terrorist attack that targeted Swift’s three-night “Eras” Tour stint at Ernst Happel Stadium. The primary suspect had reportedly sworn an oath to the Islamic State (IS) group in recent weeks.
