On Friday (September 8), SZA visited New York for a spontaneous concert at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in celebration of her December 2022 album SOS. Making the event free for all, as she is currently prepping for the second leg of her SOS Tour, the St. Louis-bred singer played many of the songs from her chart-topping LP.

Additionally, SZA decided to announce the impending deluxe version of SOS at the show, revealing the title and estimated amount of songs that will be added.

“So the deluxe is like a whole ‘nother album, and it’s called Lana,” she told the Brooklyn crowd. “It’s seven to 10 songs, and it’ll be out this fall.”

Without an official release date, Lana is a play on SZA’s birth name Solána Rowe, combining SOS and LANA. She even decided to play some of the songs she intends to include on Lana at the show, explaining how the concert came together on a whim.

“Heads up, we don’t actually have a plan,” she said about the setlist. “We’re just playing some songs off the deluxe, and we’re just gonna play a couple of songs you already know. It was really just — I just wanted to do something for free that was a vibe ’cause I was here in town. Literally, there’s no other point to this whatsoever.”

The announcement of Lana comes two weeks after SZA put out the music video for “Snooze,” SOS‘s eighth track. Including cameos from Justin Bieber, Benny Blanco, and other notable actors Woody McClain and Young Mazino, the visuals refueled fans’ interest in new SZA music, which she’d been hinting at since SOS first came out.

Talks surrounding Lana first started in January, when SZA did an interview with iHeartRadio’s #MostRequestedLive show.

“There are still songs that didn’t make the album that I wanted to make the album, but that’s what deluxe and things are for,” she said. “Sometimes it’s 10 songs that didn’t make the cut, so we’ll see. I’m going to throw them all out there because… No one can say I didn’t give the music. So when I disappear for another five years, there will be more. There will be more to speak for me.”
