(Dawes)

News flash: a billion and one bands will be descending upon South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, this March. Also, the sky is blue and grass is green.

The headline acts will be announced later (so far Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl has signed on to be a keynote speaker), but at SXSW.com, you’ll find a list of what the long-running Festival is all about; bands you may have heard of, bands you’ve never heard of, and bands you need to see immediately.

The Americana genre is well represented this year, with (the very British) Richard Thompson, The Milk Carton Kids, J.D. McPherson, Caitlin Rose, Amy Speace, Laura Cantrell and Jim Lauderdale/Buddy Miller all scheduled to appear.

Theres’ also a “Where Are They Now” contingent, with 90’s chart toppers Third Eye Blind, Live’s Ed Kowalczyk, and Alien Ant Farm booked to perform.

We can vouch for Dawes, Darwin Deez, Whitehorse, Ben Sollee, Houndmouth, J Roddy Walston and the Business, Waco Brothers, The Mavericks, Paloma Faith and Vietnam if you need some suggestions. And you can bet we’ll be first in line to see Gringo Star.

Check out the full list of bands here. SXSW runs from March 8-17.
