NPR Music is streaming Robbie Robertson’s latest solo album, the autobiographical How To Become Clairvoyant, in its entirety this week. The idea for the album, due April 5, was sparked by jam sessions with Eric Clapton, who co-wrote a couple of tracks. In addition to Clapton, Clairvoyant features special guests Trent Reznor, Steve Winwood, Robert Randolph, Tom Morello, and Angela McCluskey, and Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith. Robertson will be drafting Dawes to be his backing band on a few upcoming TV appearances, his first in ten years. He’ll appear on Late Night With David Letterman on April 5, and The View on April 6.
“They’re really good and they’re a band,” Robertson said of Dawes in Rolling Stone. “It’s different than just getting a bunch of individual musicians and trying to make them click and blend. The guys are already in the blend, so that’s great. They’re all at the top of their game. I’m the one that’s a little rusty.”
In a recent interview with American Songwriter to be featured in our May/June issue, Robertson addressed the subject of making music with the surviving members of The Band. Read a preview of the interview here.
