Stevie Nicks and Billy Joel’s Incredible “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” Duet Has Me Missing Tom Petty

While both produced a staggering amount of success in the music industry, when combining their career, Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks sold nearly 300 million albums. And when it comes to accolades, the pair have more than enough awards to fill a trophy case. Although both collaborated with other singers in the past, neither Joel nor Nicks worked together. But come August 2025 that will change when they take the stage in Rutherford, New Jersey for a single concert.

Scheduled to take place on August 8, 2025, at the MetLife Stadium, this won’t be the first time Joel and Nicks took the stage together. Although not working together in the studio, the pair have produced more than a few performances over the years. Just last year, the singers shared the stage in Philadelphia for a heartwarming performance on “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.” Written by Nicks and Tom Petty, the song landed on the singer’s debut album Bella Donna in 1981. Continuing to perform the song, there seemed no better collaboration than between Nicks and Joel.

The two music legends absolutely smashed their performance, but as many fans pointed out, you can’t help but think of Petty when you hear the beautiful track. “This makes me miss Tom Petty,” one user commented on YouTube. “No one can replace Tom Petty,” another added, alongside a broken heart emoji.

Petty, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, passed away in 2017 at 66 years old, just one week after the Heartbreakers’ 40th Anniversary Tour concluded.

Billy Joel Shocked He Never Worked With Stevie Nicks

While fans in attendance loved watching Nicks and Joel work the stage, online, comments included, “Stevie is an icon, the music is imbedded in our hearts from the sixties to now.   This generation has no idea what great musicians and singers we had.  Today garbage, no one can sing.” Another person added, “Dang. Stevie and Billy sound fabulous together!! I remember when this album was released: Stevie and Tom’s vocals were like peanut butter and jelly– complimentary vocals, and the song? An instant classic. Haven’t seen Stevie live since 1990 (!!), but she’s still got it!!”

Although gaining praise, some wondered why Joel and Nicks never collaborated in the past. According to Joel, “We met at a Fleetwood Mac gig in San Francisco probably 10 years ago. I just got to meet her backstage, but we’ve never worked together, even though we both kind of hit at the same time. So this’ll be a completely new thing for me.”

For those hoping to catch Joel and Nicks on the stage together, the general sale for tickets to their New Jersey show goes live on December 13th. For Citi card members, they are allowed to enter a presale on December 9th.
