It’s been a difficult week for The Flaming Lips. Frequent collaborator and musical prodigy Nell Smith passed away in a car accident at the age of 17 on October 5. Now, another potential tragedy has struck the band. Charlotte “Bowie” Drozd, the 16-year-old daughter of Flaming Lips member and multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd, has been reported missing as of October 5 at 11:30 am.

Drozd was last seen at the Seattle Space Needle. She was believed to have been traveling toward the downtown area of Seattle. The band posted a missing person flyer for Drozd yesterday.
If you are located in Seattle or Washington as a whole and have any information related to Drozd’s location, there is a phone number you can call or text to connect with Seattle police. Drozd is 5’7” tall and 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Flaming Lips and Steven Drozd have posted on social media about Drozd’s disappearance. Fans and contemporaries alike have been pouring out prayers and well-wishes for the missing girl.
“Manifesting she is found safe and this is all just one big misunderstanding,” said one fan on Instagram.
“Godspeed,” said Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, who also reposted the missing person flyer on his Instagram account.
Flaming Lips’ Member Have Been Dealing With a Lot of Tragedy Recently
Charlotte Drozd’s disappearance occurred on the same day that Nell Smith, a young musical prodigy who has collaborated with Flaming Lips in the past, passed away after a car crash. The location and details of the accident have not yet been made available to the public.
The announcement of her death came from her family via Instagram yesterday, October 7. With the information provided thus far, it does not appear that Smith’s death and Drozd’s disappearance are related in any way.
During a performance on Sunday, October 6, Flaming Lips’ frontman Wayne Coyne addressed Smith’s death. The band celebrated her life with a performance of the band’s song “Everything Has Changed”.
“We are reminded once again of the power of music and how encouraging it can be to be around people that you love,” Coyne said during the performance.
We hope that Drozd is found safe. The band also implores anyone with any information about her disappearance to contact Seattle police via the phone number provided.
