Before you buy a used car, you might want to check with Bottle Rockets frontman Brian Henneman. The band tackled the subject on “1000 Dollar Car,” a classic number which can be found on the reissue of Bottle Rockets and The Brooklyn Side, out 11/19. The new double-disc set collects the legendary ’90s alt-country band’s out-of-print first and second albums, and adds 19 previously unreleased tracks. Pre-order it here.

“The song is a direct result of buying a ’77 Chrysler New Yorker,” Henneman tells us. “Looked like a good deal at the time. Nickel and dimed me right into sellin’ it for 350 dollars just to get it out of my life. There was nothing left to do but write about it. Picked up a guitar and it came quick. Pretty much in one shot. It’s 99% straight honesty, except for the fact that it really cost 975 dollars. Too many syllables, so I rounded it to the most sing-able price. Glad I wrote it, ’cause every time I sing it, it reminds me not to do that again…”
