Alliance Entertainment LLC, the record industry’s largest self-contained distributor, will lay off 462 workers and shutter its warehouse in Coral Springs, Florida. 333 of the layoffs come from warehouse workers.
The company’s cuts come on the heels of a plan by Alliance Entertainment LLC, a division of Source Interlink Cos., to consolidate its distribution, sales and support centers. The layoffs will occur between March 16 and May 4 of this year. Spokespeople for the Florida company have not yet released comment regarding the matter other than what is currently featured on their website.
Cynthia Beauchamp, Source Interlink’s group vice president for human resources and labor relations, assures that workers affected by the cuts will be offered jobs at another Source Interlink plant in Kentucky. The company will also work with those unwilling to relocate.
Source Interlink is most well known in the industry as a distributor of CDs and DVDs. The Coral Springs location was the company’s only distributing facility for such products, and will remain so until the switch to Kentucky.
Another Florida company plans to follow in Alliance Entertainment’s footsteps. Global market research company Synovate Inc., located in Miami, plans to cut nearly 100 jobs in the upcoming months.
