Everyone remembers Next BIG Nashville right? Of course you do (see our our great mini-documentary from 2010 if you need a refresher).

Well it appears graduation day is this coming September, as the event has now been billed “NBN presents: SoundLand 2011,” and it’s shaping up to be even more awesome than we originally thought.

In addition to headliners M. Ward, Dawes, Justin Townes Earle and Ghostland Observatory, organizers have announced that Foster The People, The Low Anthem, CULTS, Those Darlins, Ben Sollee, Jonny Corndawg, Tristen and The Apache Relay have joined the bill.

Rappers Yelawolf — an Eminem protege who will drop his second album Radioactive a few days after the festival —  and Pitchfork fave Big K.R.I.T. (who will release his debut full length, Live From The Underground, on 9/27) will also perform. They’ll head up the friday night 12th Avenue South Block Party Stage, in what could very well be the Nashville hip hop show of the year.

Throw in the previously announced JEFF The Brotherhood, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit, Caitlin Rose, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Bonobo, PUJOL, Paper Route, and Chancellor Warhol and you’ve got yourself a pretty amazing lineup.

SoundLand will run from September 21-24, spread out over several of Nashville’s top venues, and boasts “field trips and fun” in addition to a stacked roster of bands. Check out the latest lineup and purchase tickets at nbnsoundland.com).

On Saturday, SoundLand will host an day-long party at downtown Nashville’s Public Square Park, which promises an “eclectic musical lineup and a curated collection of arts, crafts and local food trucks.” JEFF The Brotherhood, Those Darlins, Royal Bangs, Jessica Lea Mayfield, The Apache Relay, Tristen and Chancellor Warhol are all expected to perform.

“After five years of growth, we’re pumped to fully launch SoundLand,” says Jason Moon Wilkins, Co-Founder of Next BIG Nashville, the festival’s organizers. “More national artists and national media have begun to really take notice of our event, and also realize that there is so much more going in Nashville that what’s it’s famous for. We’ve created SoundLand with a focus on a big, fun live-music spectacle and centralized the venues to make it more convenient for festival-goers. Oh, and we have food trucks and inflatables.”

Last year, American Songwriter hosted a three night-stand at The Basement for NBN, featuring the talents of local acts like Keegan DeWitt and Natalie Prass, both of whom will play this year’s SoundLand festival. Keep reading American Songwriter.com for updates and coverage of the festival.
