Nineteen-year-old singer/songwriter and pianist Michael Pollack has recently garnered recognition as the result of a viral video of his impromptu performance with Billy Joel back in January. At a Vanderbilt University Q&A with the musical legend, Pollack accompanied him as the pianist on “New York State of Mind.”

Following the pivotal performance, he made appearances on CNN, The Today Show, and Sirius/XM Radio and was covered by publications including Rolling Stone and The Huffington Post.

Pollack, also a skilled vocalist, has since directed his efforts toward creating original music and songwriting, and has released numerous tracks while preparing for the release of an EP this fall.  In “Chances Are,” he sings about his experience with Billy Joel: “You may be alive, but are you living?  I promise you the two are not the same.  Never hesitate to take what’s given, ’cause chances are this chance won’t come again.”

“‘Chances Are’ is an anthem for all of the people who need that extra push to step up in a big moment,” he tells American Songwriter, “me being one of them.”
