Last time we heard from Trent Dabbs, the multi-tasker was writing songs for ABC’s Nashville and touring the country with his throwback rockabilly-soul band, Sugar & the Hi Lows. This fall, he’ll shift his attention back to his solo career with The Way We Look At Horses. It’s a folksy pop album, produced by longtime collaborator Jeremy Bose and shot through with atmospheric washes of piano, strings, guitar, and thick harmonies.

On “Time Decides,” Dabbs sings about life and loss in a double-tracked croon. “One of the lyrics I’m most proud of is from the bridge,” he explains. “I wrote the song shortly after seeing a loved one in the last stage of life. ‘And if it takes a turn on me then let it be/ And if it takes eternity then I don’t mind/ If time decides.”

The Way We Look At Horses trots into a record store near you on November 5.
