Slaughter Beach Dog Promo 1 by Jessica Flynn
After a big year with Modern Baseball, the Philadelphia-based rock band Jake Ewald fronts alongside longtime pal Brendan Lukens, Ewald is keeping the momentum going with his first solo project, Slaughter Beach, Dog. Though the 10 tracks on his upcoming debut Welcome don’t stray too far from what we’ve come to expect from Ewald – highly descriptive lyricism, well-constructed songs and heavy melancholic, emotive guitar – they take his sound in a more densely layered direction reminiscent of bands like Pavement and Built to Spill. Check out the latest single from the album, “Forever,” below.

“Welcome was my first experience intentionally writing an entire cohesive album,” says Ewald. “Before, I had only written halves of Modern Baseball records. It was a little daunting, but I really enjoyed the experience. I wrote the music for ‘Forever’ during basic tracking for the Slaughter Beach, Dog record in the summer of last year, and I wrote the lyrics on the subway in the winter earlier this year.”

Welcome drops September 30 via Lame-O Records and is available for preorder here.
