Song Premiere: Roses & Revolutions, “These Walls”

The Band: Indie-pop duo Alyssa Coco and Matt Merritt, a.k.a. Roses & Revolutions.
The Song: “These Walls,” a bonus track off the iTunes version of their self-titled sophomore EP, out April 1st.
Fun Fact: The track features Daughtry keyboardist/guitarist/back up vocalist Elvio Fernandes. Speaking of Daughtry, you may remember Coco from her brief appearance on Season 7 of American Idol.

Songwriter Says: “We all have our demons inside, or own personal enemies that we constantly fight,” Coco shares with American Songwriter. “This song was written as an outlet while I was going through one of my bouts of anxiety, specifically, OCD. People that go through anxiety know that it’s typically a silent struggle, which is emphasized in the song with the line “the flames burn so quietly – but if only you could see”. I wanted to tell the story of my struggles, in hopes that people going through the same thing would relate.”

“Matt and I went into the studio and recorded this song, keeping it very raw – exactly how the song was originally written. We had sent our EP to a friend, Elvio Fernandes, to get his thoughts about them. Elvio is a phenomenal singer, musician and songwriter, and someone I’ve known since I was 12 years old! He heard the very first song I’d written. He shot me a text one night saying he had just gotten off a flight on the way home from a show, and listened to the whole EP. I was super excited when he had expressed interest in being a part of ‘These Walls.’ So, when he had a break from his busy schedule, he came into Red Booth Recording, where we recorded our EP, and added a whole new dimension to the song. We’re so happy to have him be a part of this tune.”
