F. Scott Fitzgerald loving, pre-war Americana act Mornin’ Old Sport make the perfect music for lazing down the river, a mint julep in your hand.

Listen to “Clementine,” off their new album Misery Loves Co.. Band chanteuse Kate Smeal handles the vocals on this old-timey ode to a member of the fairer sex.

“‘Clementine’ was inspired by some of the most influential women in music like Patsy Cline, Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O’Day, Smeal tells American Songwriter. “They gave some of the most profound performances ever recorded in history, and the spoken-word element of ‘Clementine’ pays homage to their moxie.”

Many people are predisposed to thinking that spoken word songs are not only dated but tacky. I believe that in being innovative, one can achieve the nostalgia of ‘the good old days’ while still being relevant. ‘Clementine’s’ purpose is to push our generation’s musical limits in this way.”
