Morgan O'Kane
The Song: “Monarchs,” off of The One They Call The Wind, out March 25th.
The Artist: Songwriter and banjoist Morgan O’Kane, who you can catch at this year’s SXSW.
Fun Fact: O’Kane is an activist for the Anti-Mountaintop Removal movement.
Songwriter Says: “While at sea in the Gulf of Mexico about 200 miles off shore the monarchs one by one would fly over our boat sometimes resting on the rigging. This to me this was as inspirational as anything I had ever come across,” O’Kane says. “These little bugs knew exactly where they were going, it is imbedded in there DNA. Made me feel that humans have forgotten there path due to the distractions we have created for ourselves. Unless of course our path is to leach the life out of the earth and to blindly destroy the world that has kept us alive, which I’m still undecided.”
