The Artist: Tennessee born-and-bred singer-songwriter Joseph LeMay
The Song: “Seventeen Acres” from his upcoming album of the same name
Songwriter Says: “I wrote “Seventeen Acres” a few months after my wife and I left Nashville and took up residence on a little farm just east of the Mississippi River near Dyersburg, Tennessee. We’d dumped all of what was left of our savings into the abandoned single-wide trailer that sits on the southeast corner of the farm, dealing with a leaky roof, hornets, and at least one copperhead. We had no idea how we were going to make our dreams of authentic living a reality, but the romance of living in the country was still new. I suppose I wrote it as a sort of bulwark to protect us from the hard times that I suspected were on the way. Something Molly could find solace in when I was gone, on the road.
Fun Fact: The single-wide trailer LeMay and his wife live in is just over 400 square feet, sleeps four, and has an estimated burn time of 45 seconds.
