Songwriter Says: “‘Blues in the Afternoon’ was written quite quickly,” the band says. “It started with the music and the lyrics came later. Like a lot of songs we have written – the lyrics were evoked from the feeling the music gave us. From what I remember, the lyrics were written in studio the day we needed them for tracking. I’ve never given much thought about them minus the feeling they were meant to try and express, one of disallusion and sorrow. To ponder it more, I can come up with many ‘meanings.’ One thing I thought about is the fact that we all come from family’s that came west to raise there families. Going west has always seemed to hold a mythical/mystical promise of adventure and prosperity in our culture. And in many ways it has provided this to many people in the United States. Gold Miners, Poets, Mormons, Marines, Farmers, Actresses – the list goes on and on. That being said, once you get here you are still left with the same sense of fear and confusion all people have to face in there life sometime or the other. Be it in East Texas, Detroit, Bombay or Malibu, California.”
